In an exciting whirlwind of travel, RGS Foundation Director Jonny Hylton and Headmaster Shaun Fenton made their way across four countries, reinforcing the truly global spirit of the Reigatian community. Their tour of Southeast Asia was not only a chance to reconnect with familiar faces but also an opportunity to welcome new members and strengthen relationships with partners who help shape our RGS global village.

The journey began in the heart of Hong Kong, at the stunning Chinese Library overlooking Tai Kwun. Here, Reigatians from across the region gathered to discuss plans for our milestone 350th anniversary celebration. For over a decade, this Hong Kong group has been led by the steadfast Lawrence Webb (RGS '77), who has served as our ambassador with unwavering dedication. To honour Lawrence’s contributions, we were thrilled to present him with a token of appreciation for his support. Special thanks also go to James Ward (RGS ’06), a local restaurateur, who helped secure the beautiful venue. If you ever find yourself in Hong Kong, be sure to visit his two fantastic FRANCIS restaurants, where you'll be warmly welcomed.

After one night in Hong Kong, the journey continued to Singapore. There, we were hosted by Ben Jones (RGS ’94) at Mr Stork, a spectacular venue perched atop the Andaz Hyatt hotel, with views of the iconic Marina Bay skyline, the recently dismantled F1 track, and the legendary Raffles Hotel. As the sun set, the vibrant Reigatian community came together, sharing stories and building new connections in the warm evening air. Ben and Ryan Younger (RGS ’91) were both recognised for their contributions as RGS ambassadors in Singapore, receiving a small token of our gratitude for their continued support.

Next, the tour took us to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where we visited the future site of Reigate Grammar School Kuala Lumpur, our latest addition to the RGS global family. Set to open next year under the leadership of Mr. Philip Bailey, the new campus promises to be a dynamic hub for education. We were fortunate to receive a tour of the grounds, guided by some of the school's senior prefects, who gave us a glimpse into the exciting future of RGS in Malaysia.

Our final stop was in Hanoi, Vietnam, where RGS Vietnam has flourished under the leadership of Ms Thuy. The school has become a top-tier educational institution in the city, and Headmaster Shaun Fenton's visit was a highlight, complete with welly throwing at the sports day, book reading sessions with younger students, and even a training workshop for staff. The crowning moment of our visit was the grand opening of the school's new performance space. We were treated to a spectacular concert featuring classical pieces and impressive solo performances, showcasing the immense musical talent at RGS Vietnam. The new facility is set to be a cornerstone for artistic expression in the years to come.

This tour of Southeast Asia was a celebration of the strength, unity, and vibrancy of the Reigatian community across the globe. We are immensely grateful to everyone who hosted us with such warmth and generosity.

When Reigatians get together, good things happen!
