On a sunny day at Reigate Hill, we set up ready to welcome our sold out event of golfers. A big thanks to Barry Devine (RGS 1983-1990) for sponsoring this event for the 7th year in a row.  With a new table of merchandise to sell including our fancy polka dot socks and 350 celebration keyrings, we checked everyone in. They had a good laugh watching each other pull out varying lengths of silly strings, a big win for Gez Watkins (RGS 1989-1997)  who pulled out the longest piece of string ever to be in the box! A big shout out to our score keeper, David Hylton (former parent) who tirelessly and meticulously manages the score cards. With everyone arriving and settling in for a pre-course bite to eat and cold beverage, the black clouds rolled in and before we had chance to do anything, the heavens opened! Thankfully it was short lived and by the time our golfers went out to their tees, the weather was brightening up.

With the golfers out on the course, the RGS Foundation snacks buggy began its journey around the green, delivering cold refreshments and nibbles to our teams. The sun was shining and there was no longer a cloud in the sky.

As the day progressed, so did the weather and by 5pm, the sun was shining brightly and the golf club terrace was beckoning. With a tasty meal of southern fried chicken wraps and chips waiting to accompany the cold beers, our teams settled in to wait for the coveted scores to be announced…..

As the raffle commenced, prizes of celebration 350 limited edition Drop Kick Brewing Pale Ale and their new bottled Pilsner sat alongside the high-in-demand RGS Foundation socks, some golf merchandise and bottle of Veteran gin. A delighted chairman of the Reigatian Hub, Matt Lowe (RGS 1992-1997) was punching the air in celebration of winning the socks.

Finally the winners of the golf day were announced. Nearest the Pin went to Ed Wilkinson, Longest Drive, with a whopping 357 yard shot, went to Chris Hearn and the team win went to James and Nickee Abdool, son, Joe Abdool and friend Nick Roi with an incredible total. It’s worth mentioning here that we had two entries for best dressed for the occasion – Stone estate agents for their Nike sponsored orange shirts and Nickee Abdool for her stunning RGS inspired golf dress in navy and white.

Jonny Hylton RGS Foundation Director (RGS ’99) thanked everyone for coming along and reiterated the importance of community and support for these events. He went on to say that as a school, we are celebrating 350 years this year and there have been and will continue to be a whole calendar of celebratory events. Abandoning tradition, we opted to miss the auction out this year and ask instead that our golfers pledge in our Giving Day which takes place on Monday 16 June for 36 hours. We thank everyone for their on-going support whether it be with a donation or by simply attending one of our events.

It was a great day and we look forward to seeing you same time, same place on 11 June 2026. If you can’t wait until then, we have our next golf day at Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club on 18 September. Follow the link to register.

Once again, thanks to everyone that made the day a success, the RGS Foundation team, David Hylton, Barry Devine (RGS '90) and Reigate Hill Golf Club.
