Ben Youngs Headlines a Brilliant Night at Steam Wine Bar

What a night it was at Steam Wine Bar, as England’s most-capped men’s rugby player, Ben Youngs, joined us for an evening full of stories, laughter, and Reigatian spirit — all expertly hosted by Stephen Chenery (RGS '87).

It was wonderful to see such a great mix of Reigatians in attendance — former pupils, current staff, parents, and friends — coming together to celebrate RGS’s 350th anniversary and support our Changing Lives, Building Futures campaign.

A huge thank you goes to Stephen, whose series of Reigatian events have now raised over £60,000 towards the campaign — an incredible contribution and a testament to his continued passion for RGS.

Guests were encouraged to wear their favourite rugby jerseys, adding a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to the evening. Particular credit goes to the brave staff member who turned up in a Welsh shirt, surrounded by a sea of English supporters! 

Ben was superb on the microphone — funny, articulate, and refreshingly honest as he reflected on his remarkable 17-year career, sharing insights from his journey through the highs and lows of professional rugby, from his early days at Holt Rugby Club through to starting a British & Irish Lions test match with his brother. 

It was a memorable evening that perfectly captured what the Reigatian community represents — connection, generosity, and a shared sense of fun.
