Spotlights

From an early stage in my career, I’ve been fascinated by what drives people, making Human Resources a natural path for me. My journey began as a junior three decades ago, where I was fortunate to pursue a Masters in Human Resources Management alongside full-time work - balancing professional growth with the realities of a busy schedule.

Progressing through dynamic and demanding roles in professional and financial services, I developed resilience and determination in abundance. Achieving a Director position at age 33 was a milestone I had long aspired to, and being the sole female executive in several organisations inspired me to champion and mentor emerging female leaders.

As a transformational leader, my focus is on motivating and empowering teams to excel, while remaining approachable and compassionate. I live by the principle, “treat others as you wish to be treated,” which has consistently guided my approach, especially when navigating challenging situations.

In April 2025, I embraced a new chapter by founding my consultancy, KD People, with the mission to help individuals realise their full career potential. I firmly believe that people perform at their best when they are fulfilled and thriving.

The pace of change in our world and workplaces is extraordinary, with AI poised to reshape the future of work. I believe adaptability, openness to change, and learning from younger generations will be key to navigating what lies ahead. Curiosity, after all, is the foundation for lifelong growth.

Partnering with the RGS Foundation is a fantastic opportunity to give back. I’m eager to share my experience and network, and to collaborate with the school on workshops and initiatives that support students as they move forward in their studies and careers. You can read more about what I can offer to young Reigatians here.

Karen's Top Tip

Communication is Key. In our technology-driven era, it’s easy to overlook the importance of genuine communication and human connection. Yet, these skills are more vital than ever. In a competitive job market, strong communication, combined with confidence and empathy, sets individuals apart and paves the way for success in any career.
